Enhance Your WhatsApp Media Sharing Experience: Send Original Photos and Videos in HD
WhatsApp has introduced a groundbreaking feature for iPhone users, allowing them to share photos and videos without compression, preserving their original quality. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to share original photos and videos on Whatsapp, and make the most of it.
How to Share Original Photos and Videos on WhatsApp
WhatsApp’s latest update eliminates compression, enabling users to share media files while maintaining their original quality. Although the feature is expected to roll out globally “in the coming weeks,” you might not see it immediately.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to using this feature:
- Open an existing WhatsApp chat or create a new one.
- Tap the plus icon to the left of the text input field.
- Select “Document” and choose either a photo or video.
- Pick the media you want to transmit and confirm by tapping the blue arrow.
Note: The feature comes with a 2GB file size limit.
Once the files are sent, no previews will appear in the chat window, but recipients can view them by tapping the files. While WhatsApp is also testing the feature for Android, the release date is yet to be announced.
How to send HD-quality videos or photos on WhatsApp?
In August 2023, Mark Zuckerberg announced the functionality to enable HD-quality media sharing. Users can activate this feature in their apps, and the official rollout plan indicates that HD photos will be available first, followed by HD videos.
Here’s how to enable HD-quality media:
- Open WhatsApp, select a chat, and capture a photo or video or choose media from the file picker.
- In the editing mode, look for the new HD symbol at the top and tap to activate it.
- Choose between delivering media in Standard or High quality, applicable to all media types.
- Review resolution specifications and video megabyte count.
- Press “Done” and “Send.” HD media in threads is indicated by a small HD logo in the lower right corner.
Standard quality stills typically have a resolution of less than 3MP, while HD quality can go up to 18MP. Video quality also sees a noticeable improvement from 480p to 720p in high-quality mode.
